What I consider “The Wall” is the Wall of Berlin. I consider it as the Wall of all the Walls. Obviously it’s an analogical way of thinking. In front of me, it was representing the separation of someone from other human beings. Lot of times, unfortunately, relatives too.
I first saw the Berlin Wall in March 1983. It perfectly drew the clear and unmistakable distinction between two separate worlds (East and West), the prototype of the so-called Cold War. This piece of steel and cement was completely clean, unaccessable, distant, asepctyc by the DDR or East side as well was totally painted, used as a bivouac by the young teeangers of West Berlin the West side.

These uncommunicated worlds were involving an immediate mental choice: was it better either the “Law and Order” guaranteed by the so-called Democratic Party of the Est Germany (Soviet Area) or the unstoppable way of freedom we could see along the sides of the Western Wall including also people taking drugs in front of the tourist or sleeping drunk leaned, over there, on the same wall?
We were young western European teenagers and we had no doubt: it was surely better the second option with all the risks included in managing the absolute (legal) personal freedom to do what you want. Something fascinating was capturing my heart on the other side: this sense of quiet, peace and order seemed almost true even if it wasn’t. A deep discomfort speedly came up: the awareness of the unreal calm, not spontaneous but covered by a terror, imposed by the Authority; not chosen by anyone. And in this lack of freedom, every ideal and positive sensation of peace failed down drastically.
For those people who know the story of the Berlin Wall, from East Berlin the vision you had was the following: The proper Wall was guarded by the Vopos, the military service of DDR. At some hundreds meters from the Wall another added wall was built in order to avoid the fact that any DDR citizen could access instantly to the final Wall. Between the two Walls there was a desert empty and dangerous field because simply if someone tried to enter in the interspace, crossing the first wall, at the first step behind they would have been shoot instantly.
What’s impressive is this: from East Berlin, outside the second wall located in the city and far from the real Wall of Berlin, I embraced a telescope, to look to the Vopos and to Berlin Wall as near and clear as I could (curiosity of a teenager). Doing this and moving from the right to the left, I discovered that a Guard from a tower of the Wall was looking at me with his telescope too. That was shivering: a real soldier was monitoring a simple, pure and innocent student whom had won a scholar competition for an authorized visit.
That was the maniacal control in the Eastern countries during the Cold War.
Stepping to 1989 nobody could imagine what the Falldown of the Wall represented for us (young students of the 80s) and for all mankind.
For a big part of people, History of mankind is always the same one and equal to itself repeating day by day facts and with no possibility of other solutions or wayout.
It is the simple and unavoidable repetition of the same mistakes, the same inequalities, the same fights.
Then, now and forever.
We don’t think so. The progress of mankind is demonstrating this day by day, century by century.
So, not obliged to believe in such a sceptic vision of life, the young generations (me to) went to Berlin after the Falldown of the Wall for that incredible event that was the Pink Floyd’s concert on Summer 1990. And then, lots of them (me too) were coming home with pieces of that wall and pieces of barbed wire mounted across the Wall.
Last year I asked to Fabio Tassi, an Italian artist, painter and sculptor, one of my favourite ones, who was born in my own country, 30 km from Milan, to create an artwork with my pieces of the Berlin Wall and about it you can read in the parallel page “the Artwork” in this website.
At the same time, I’m trying to develop a not usual and visionary project I hope that will grow up not only as the work in progress of my and Fabio’s ideas, but also as a mutual shared community by every single one of you (readers, web navigators, young bloggers, etc) who wants to put in contact each other for any kind of cultural and emotional experience.
Enjoy!

After starting the above project, limited to the Artwork by Fabio, immediately me and some friends of mine had the certain and strong sensation that something more was growing up.
So I started to thought how this ideas could be transfused in anything else with a wider vision, an opportunity and a positive and funny work.
I was thinking about the Young who could help me in building a sort of blog, website or any kind of digital space, supposed to be a sort of natural continuation of the spirit of the first idea based on Berlin Wall and on its dismounting as a symbol of any human division removal and elimination.
Going ahead, over this first idea, I’m speaking of collecting any kind of cultural feeling against opposition, fight and negative mutual approach between men and in favour of union, tolerance, positive mutual approach, with no contamination about ideology, politics or any kind of unique thought.
This is now “The Project” started without knowing if it will go on and where it will go.
Nowadays, we have built some pages named as different cultural areas such as literature, law, arts, entertainment but they could be changed or other ones could be added.
We thoughts also to an useful approach, giving a voice to those people who wants help other human beings, so we are thinking about a crowdfunding platform authorized by the competent financial Authority, built to collect investment only used for social goals.
The truth is that “Unwalled” is basically an open space that anyone can use for worthy projects with no limitation if not the webmaster policy and netiquette of us we will be publishing asap.
Why in English?
Strange for a not English mother tongue creator of the Project but a precise choice.
About communication among people and about how the new generations of 2020, more after the Pandemic period, are joining all over the world, this was unavoidable.
The English language is the printing of the direction towards the Project want to move on; connecting – through the Web – individuals from all over the World, aimed to everyone with no distinction and useful across any border, transnational, opened, challenging.
At the end of the organization of the Project the only real thing to be taken into account is that it will be working only with the involvement and interested participation of the e-readers and bloggers.
I hope Fabio’s artwork diffusion can help this process of development.
